A to Z of Excel Functions: The PROPER Function

Welcome back to our regular A to Z of Excel Functions blog.  Today we look at the PROPER function.

The PROPER function

The PROPER function capitalises the first letter in a text string and any other letters in text that follow any character other than a letter.  It converts all other letters to lowercase letters.

The PROPER function uses the following syntax to operate:

The PROPER function has the following argument:

• text: this is required and represents the text enclosed in quotation marks, a formula that returns text or a reference to a cell containing the text you wish to partially capitalise.
