A to Z of Excel Functions: The RANDBETWEEN Function

17 June 2024

Welcome back to our regular A to Z of Excel Functions blog.  Today we look at the RANDBETWEEN function.

The RANDBETWEEN function

The RANDBETWEEN function returns a random integer number between two numbers you specify.  This is a volatile function: a new random integer number is returned every time the worksheet is calculated.

The RANDBETWEEN syntax is as follows:

= RANDBETWEEN(bottom, top)

It has the following arguments:

  • bottom: this is required and represents the smallest integer RANDBETWEEN will return
  • top: this is also required and represents the largest integer RANDBETWEEN will return.

Please see my examples below:

We’ll continue our A to Z of Excel Functions soon.  Keep checking back – there’s a new blog post every business day. A full page of the function articles can be found here
