Power Pivot Principles: Size Can Be Everything

Welcome back to the Power Pivot Principles blog.  This week, we take a look at a very simple trick we realise we take for granted.

As a company, we have been providing training for Power Pivot for quite a few years now, and it has suddenly dawned on me – with no less than three people asking me this same question in the last week – that sometimes you forget you are taking certain tricks for granted.

Now, apologies to those of you who know this trick, but it has become clear in the past week not everyone knows this, so here is a very simple “pro tip” that will make working with DAX a lot easier if, like me, your eyesight for reading has “seen” better days!

Imagine a colleague has asked you to look at a DAX formula (the calculation is irrelevant for today’s blog):

Depending upon your screen resolution, that formula might be a little difficult to read.  So, is this better?

We have been making our DAX formulae larger in our Measure dialogs for years.  But, it’s become clear, there are many that don’t know how to do this – and it’s so easy!!

All you have to do is click anywhere inside the Formula window, and then, whilst holding the CTRL button down, rotate the mouse scroll wheel accordingly to make the text your preferred size.

I apologise there is no deep technical discussion this week, but I think there will be a few readers just a little bit happier now!
